Art’s musical influence first came from his mother. Both of Art’s parents are from Tennessee, the core and birthplace of Country music. Art’s mom took her shot in the Nashville Country Music scene. She eventually released two 45 singles from a Nashville studio. His mother also graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry and Art remembers seeing her performance on TV while he was here in Michigan. That impression always stuck with him even though his taste in music would be of the hard rock variety.
Art’s hands-on musical experience was accrued when he was working as a roadie for the band “Redbud” out of Detroit, Mi. Art fondly remembers running the mixing board and lights for the band. Although he admired them, he never thought he’d get to do the same thing. But his ambitions started when he bought his first guitar, a Gibson SG in the late 70’s. He taught himself guitar by buying books and practicing in his own way. A marriage though soon saw his musical goals set aside for a family gig.
Years later, Art was bit by the musical bug again, this time, through the drums. He picked up set of drums and hasn’t looked back. But, his unorthodox path to the guitar took its turn when he was doing some mechanical work for a friend, whom came in the house to use his bathroom. Upon coming out of the house his friend said, “Dude? You got a drum set?” The friend happened to be a drummer and immediately pressed Art to start a band with him.
After meeting Dan Damm, and with a few personnel changes, Art’s previous band “HellavaStorm” was born, with Art on guitar. Although Art loves playing guitar, he still finds room to keep up his pace on the drums, practicing whenever he gets time. He can easily do this as his house always has musical gear set up, it is the hallowed practice spot that has come to be affectionately known as “The Storm Shelter”.
As Art powers on with his current project, “StormDammage”, he’s come to be the rhythm force guitar in his new band. His work ethic, dedication to practicing his instruments, guitar, and drums. StormDammage benefits from his monster presence and a heavy hard rock guitar player backed up by his classic Marshall stacks!
